Know you're theme!
Themed Fancy Dress parties are becoming ever more popular and having some knowledge of the theme can really work in your favour. Spend a good half hour looking into what the style was, what their hair was like, how they acted etc. This can really help you get into character.

Think outside the box!
A vast majority of people will automatically just go with the first thing that pops into their mind for their themed fancy dress party but wheres the fun in that? The last thing you want is to turn up to the party at see a load of people wearing the same thing as you! For example, at a 1920 Themed Fancy Dress Party most people will go with the Gangster and Flapper look. Thinking outside the box you could go with a 20's Barbershop look consisting of a Red and White Striped Jacket and Boater Hat! Now theres something not many would have thought of!

So, What are the most popular themes for a Fancy Dress Party?
The short answer to that question is... everything! There will always be people coming up with new and crazy themed fancy dress party ideas and thats whats great about fancy dress! Favourites often include 1920s, 1950s, 1980s, Mexican and Hawaiian!

1920 Fancy Dress
For womens the 1920s were all about straight, loose fitting, sleeveless, knee length and low waistline dresses! They were often sequined or fringed for a stand out look! For the men the Gangster look was a popular way to go. This may have included a Double Breasted Suit with defined shoulders and a pair of matching trousers, not forgetting the trilby hat! Why stop at just a costume though? Go the little bit further and get right into the roaring 20's. Ladies can add makeup which seemed to define their facial features and often had a smokey look around the eyes. Men were often clean shaven and had a very well trimmed haircut on the back and sides. Although this was the case for some men, others may have had a Small Moustache!

1950 Fancy Dress
The 1950s, the decade of Rock and Roll! The 50s was the time of self expression and this is reflected in the look! Our Polka Dot Skirts have been flying out ever since we have got them in and with 8 different colour variations and two sizes we understand why! You can add a Petticoat / Underskirt underneath to give it the plumped up look! Men can also look the part alongside a lady in this great Grease Couples Costume!

The 1960s and 1970s Fancy Dress
The 1960s was the decade of the psychadelic and tie-die prints! This is not only what the 60s was remembered for though, This was ofcourse the decade that The Beatles took the world by storm in their brightly coloured Sergeant Pepper outfits! Hippies were also a part of the 1960s so why not make sure you grab a groovy coloured costume, team it up with a giant afro wig and a pair of circular hippy glasses! Sorted! The 1970s was much the same as the 60s, it was a decade that continued the bright colours and also saw men dress is huge flared trousers and large collared shirts.

1980s Fancy Dress
The 1980s was the decade of good music but not so great fashion! However, as the music was great what better excuse is there than that to dress up as an icon of the 80s. The 1980s was the decase that saw the likes of Slash, Madonna, Boy George and Michael Jackson all rise to fame! The 80s was also a great decade that saw some of the most iconic tv characters such as Danger Mouse, He Man and E.T
