Australia Day might not be something many of us celebrate in the UK... but why not? After all its another reason to dress up in Fancy Dress and have a good time!
What is Australia Day?
As you can probably gather from the name 'Australia Day' is the celebration of everything Australian! Historically it commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet of British Ships at Port Jackson in New South Wales in 1788 and the raising of the Flag of Great Britain at the site by Governor Arthur Phillip. As you can imagine, in the modern age the celebration focuses more on the wonderful country that is Australia and having a good drink up!
During this fun time there are gatherings all over the World, the party atmosphere wherever you go is sure to not be a dissappointment! There are a number of events that take place in London on the day and a quick search will allow you to find one just right for you. If theres one thing we can say about Australia Day is that its sure to be full of music, fun filled events, plenty of fancy dress and of course a Beer and a Barbeque!
